In the beginning, Christianity was called the Way because it showed those living in darkness how to find their way to the light. Unfortunately, we once again have lost our way as the whole world stumbles around in darkness with little power and no direction. Once again, we have become like little children seeking to learn the first principles of our faith. Instead of following the Way, new converts are congratulated for accepting Christ and then given a few do’s and don’ts, particularly about Church membership, but never shown the Way. They may even impress upon the new believers their need to speak calmly, not to lose their temper, and not curse. On the outside, they learn well how to act like Christians as they become experts at hiding their true intentions, their anger, their frustration, and even their lack of faith. They think that they are following the Way, but they are still in darkness. As a result, the Church keeps dividing with every new doctrine re-discovered or highlighted by self-righteous man. They say, “Come over here for I have found the way,” and the church is divided once again. It’s rather tragic as everyone learns how to express his own small opinion, allowing the world’s humanistic ways to flood the Church.
On the other hand, we must rediscover the Way or all will be lost. Fallen humanity rejoices as the dividing lines between all the different religions and faiths begin to fade. They glory in the fact that secular humanism is the thread that holds them all together as the true Way becomes lost in the annals of Christian history. Secular humanism has allowed mankind to develop his own way that fits neatly into any world religion and the social fabric of the entire world. This new way teaches mankind how he can overcome all of his emotional and psychological problems while winking at the god of his choice. When disaster strikes the church leaders are not summoned to help the distressed, rather they turn to the professional secular counselors in each country, contrary to their religious preference, to render counsel. The new world religion has already arrived showing people the false way and they wonder why their lives don’t improve. They wonder why they still need to struggle with depression. They wonder why they still struggle with anxiety and loneliness. They wonder quietly among their selves where’s the power to change. However, God’s beloved children, His faithful remnant, will not only rediscover the Way but they will walk in it, to the glory of God.
To discover the Way, we must leave the darkness and come fully into the light believing that God will give us everything we need for life and godliness (See II Peter 1:3-4). Some say that this is a leap of faith because the world and everything in the world teaches the opposite. From the cradle to the grave they teach you that you must solve your own problems. This is made possible through their higher schools of learning, their great thinkers, scientist, doctors, and professionals of psychiatry. Yet, it is God the Creator of all that exists who promises to give His children everything they need for life and godliness. God created you and knows exactly what you need, so that information must come from Him alone. Christ wants to show us a new and living Way. In fact, He is the Way. He is the great power that holds everything together. This same creative power will make us into a new creation so that Christ can come and dwell in us through the Holy Spirit. As we learn how to pray and meditate to the Father through Christ then He brings the Bible to life showing us that He alone has the answers to depression and every other emotional and psychological problem. He begins His work inside us showing us how to control our thoughts that lead to action. Step by step we are transformed into the perfect image of His Son, Jesus Christ.
So, if Christ is in us giving us the light of His glory then why would we run back to the world allowing them to teach us how to live life? Here is the problem, most who call upon the Name of Christ attempt to live in both worlds at the same time. They seek to live in the light while living in the darkness. In so doing they are led into greater confusion. I am not asking you to accept Christ, I am asking you to follow Him, for He is the Way. If you truly believe that Christ has made you into a new creation, where old things have passed away; and you also believe that He will give you everything you need for life and godliness, then there is only one thing left. We must die to self so that we can follow Jesus Christ in the Way. We learn very quickly that we can’t, but He can. We must allow Christ to do His work through us. That’s why true believers always give God all the glory. The Spiritual gifts are His gifts working through us casting out evil, raising the sick, and doing great wonders and miracles. The power of our witness is Jesus Christ working through us to breakdown walls and overcome empires. The more we die to self, the more Christ works through us so powerfully. If we don’t attempt to do it in our own power, then He will do it through us, to the glory of His Father in heaven.
The Bible says, “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved” (John 3:17). If God had sent His beloved Son to condemn the world then no one could be saved. On the other hand, Jesus Christ does judge the world leaving them room for repentance. Let’s be clear that Christ loves the entire world desiring to save everyone from every race, nationality, and religious upbringing. He will judge but not condemn and neither should we. His mission is to save the entire world by showing them the Way, the only Way to the Father. To show them the only Way to a new bountiful life in Christ. Although the world is in the deepest chasm of darkness, Christ still wants to work through us showing people the Way, the only Way to eternal life. Now here is the power that will enlighten the heart even in the deadest sinner. Christ died for us on the Cross to pay the penalty for our sins, then on the third day He arose from the grave and is now seated in heaven at the right hand of the Father. If we die with Him, by dying to self, then we will live with Christ in the newness of life. The simple Gospel will show us the Way, but it takes faith to receive it.
