As we have already seen in the previous article many different problems not dealt with biblically can cause depression. The more unresolved problems the deeper the depression. So let’s look at another major problem that many Christians experience because they have not turned to God’s Word, but have chosen to listen to the world’s counselors. The problem of guilt is an issue never dealt with in psychiatry. Yet it is very common for the devil to keep whispering in your ear that you have not been really forgiven and if believed your guilt remains. Guilt is a virus that eats deeply into the heart of man keeping him from experiencing the joy of his salvation.
Fear
The world is gripped with fear for many different reasons, such as life-threatening illness, losing your job, being deeply in debt, hounded by your creditors, arrested as a Christian or facing persecution along with many other problems can cause fear and if not dealt with in a biblical way can also cause depression. So as a Christian, how do you respond to fear in a biblical way? If you have a life-threatening illness, or lost your job or been arrested and cannot work or even facing persecution, you may feel as though you have lost everything and may even lose your life. You may feel helpless to provide for your love ones. You may need a complete re-orientation on how you have been looking at things. You may need what they call a reality check.
Loneliness
As we have already seen in the previous articles many things can cause depression and the more problems not dealt with in a biblical way, the deeper the depression. So let’s look at another problem that can cause depression, which so many suffer from today – loneliness. Why does loneliness run so rampant in our society? Could it be because there is little face to face fellowship with other people on a regular basis? Much of the world spends an enormous amount of time sitting in front of their TV sets, their computers, or on their Smartphones. Indeed there is plenty to keep us busy, but many have only a few friends, if any at all, and they too are busy sitting in front of their TV sets, their computers, and on their Smartphones. After awhile, loneliness can turn into depression especially if there are other problems present that are not dealt with in a biblical way.
Transformation
Our gospel is the gospel of transformation or it’s no gospel at all. We do not deny that forgiveness and the atonement for sin is absolutely essential, because without it man is trapped in his sin and transformation is just a pipe dream. The world believes that they can change people through their counseling and psychotropic drugs, but they are simply fooling themselves, which has been proven over and over again. Just recently we have seen once again a patient of psychological counseling and the use of psychotropic drugs do the unthinkable. Until a person is delivered from the power of sin then it is quite impossible for them to really change. It deeply saddens me that the world is trapped in their sin and quite unwilling to do anything about it. I know the world is doing its best to help people change, but tragically they are only making matters worse. Admittedly, some people appear to get better or just get better on their own, but their heart is never really changed. I will never doubt their sincerity, but I am convinced that their way will never work. Only God’s way will ever change man into the kind of person he was created to be. A New World Religion in Disguise
One of the characteristics of the new world is its acceptance of psychological counseling that attempts to modify man’s behavior and cure the ailments of his heart. This is accomplished through therapeutic counseling and the administering of psychotropic drugs. It’s all quite logical: if you remove God or admit that He is incapable of fixing your heart or changing your behavior then something must take His place and that’s where psychology exerts its authority over the masses. The intervention of psychology is a slippery slope that began many centuries ago in the Middle East and has spread to the West at the same pace as rejecting Jesus Christ as God’s Messiah. This has grown so widespread that nearly fifty percent of the population in America has regularly visited a counseling center or taken a psychotropic drug.
