Upward Calling in Christ Jesus

“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the

Upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14, ESV)

What keeps us moving ahead? What keeps us looking forward instead of looking back all the time? For the believers in Christ, it is our upward calling in Christ Jesus. Unfortunately, many are stuck in the past, focused on their past failures, or reminiscing on what they perceive as good times in the past. For the Christian, it should be different. Yes, hopefully, we have learned from our previous mistakes by only glancing back, but our focus should always be on the future and our upward calling in Christ Jesus. This does not keep us from being thankful in all things, including what God has done for us in the past (II Thessalonians 5:18). This is one area that fallen humanity has not grasped. From the news services to psychological counseling, and those who are unwilling to forgive others, they are always stuck in the past. They are always rehashing the past over and over again never allowing humanity to forget their failures and move on to a new day. They have not really learned from their mistakes because every time they are rehashed somehow the facts keep changing. They have not learned how to forgive the past, holding much of humanity in bondage to their past errors. For the Christian, it should be different. We learn from the past. We forgive ourselves and those who have wronged us, which allows us to forget the past and move on. Every day should be a new day in the Lord (II Corinthians 4:16). The Immortal Message of Easter

On Easter morn, we are drawn back to the message of the Cross that all-encompassing will of God. We are catapulted beyond the simple historical message of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection to the infinite heights of God’s will for our life in Christ Jesus. If we only see the historical event steeped in tradition then we have missed the message. In the Apostle Paul’s farewell message to the Ephesian elders he declared, “For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God” (Acts 20:27). And the starting place in this wonderful journey in understanding the whole will of God is by following the admonition of Christ to pick up our cross and follow Him. The Bible says, “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23). To pick up the cross means death. It simply cannot mean anything else. It is a conscious decision to follow Christ in His death by dying to self. As we enter the dark night of our soul we discover that everything of the old sin nature must die. Every vestige of pride must be nailed to the cross. Every glimmer of self-will must die with Christ. Through faith in Christ our death to self becomes a reality. Step by step we are able to put off the old life. Continue reading The Immortal Message of Easter

Your Words are Killing Me

Our article today is, “Your Words are Killing Me.” Today we continue our series of article that proclaim that God has given us everything we need for life and godliness. The sheer number of those who suffer emotional and psychological trauma from unwholesome words launched against them is staggering. From all the wars that have been waged to all the plagues that have descended upon the planet nothing has come close to the number of those who have been damaged by corrupt and rotten speech. There is great power in the spoken word tragically used to tear down and destroy those closest to us. Make no mistake this power is quickly learned by those being attacked, perhaps in a lesser degree, and used defensively, but it does not excuse their bad behavior. This has caused a flood of casualties seeking relief from the world’s counselors to bind up their wounds. Instead of solving their real problems through godly advice they are led as captives into a life of psychotropic drug addiction with little hope of recovery. For the first time in human history the institution of marriage with its permanent relationships are becoming extinct being replaced by multiple marriages or non-committal cohabitation. If you could have your spiritual eyes opened you would be horrified by the carnage of broken lives caused by corrupt and rotten speech. There is a better way, a path of true recovery and hope for those who are willing to follow God’s counsel from His anointed Word. Continue reading Your Words are Killing Me
